After Your Screening

Here is what your results may mean, and what comes next.

If your scan is normal

Great news. Plan your next scan in one year. Lung screening works best when you do it every year.

If something shows up

Most things found on a lung scan are not cancer. They might be scars or small spots that are not harmful.

Your doctor may want another scan in a few months to see if anything changes, or other tests to be sure. Ask your doctor to explain what was found and what the next step is.

Other things the scan may show

The scan can also show things in nearby organs, like your heart. Your doctor will talk with you about anything that needs care.

Keep your lungs healthy

If you smoke, quitting is still the best thing you can do, even after a normal scan. Get free help to quit →
